Collective Monochrome #16

On the 27th & 28th of November, 2008, 66 participants created an abstract painting over 5 metres in length at a Keys St shopfront in Frankston, Victoria. This project was one in an ongoing series which Sydney based artist Billy Gruner has taken to museums, galleries and public spaces in Australia, Europe and most recently in New York.

The majority of people who chose to become involved in the Frankston painting were part of the local community and from many different backgrounds. All were welcome to paint provided they followed the rules determined by the artist: to use one colour, in this case yellow, and to make one vertical stripe.

The Collective Monochrome created specifically in Frankston is now one of the series which, when complete, will be exhibited at a future date alongside its national and international counterparts.

WSP is a new initiative of Frankston City Council Cultural Development Unit, co-funded by Arts Victoria, Australia.
