From Doug Heslop’s ongoing Archetype Project, this work attempts to connect the historical notion of
the Australian figure in landscape painting with contemporary performance and object making.

A masked mystical creature is filmed journeying through the surrounding landscapes of Frankston.
It roams the fringes of urban sprawl where the bush meets with the man-built environment.
From another world, yet bound to earthly concerns, Heslop’s sinister character risks appearing somewhat comical in a society
increasingly immune to shock.
